Earl L. Vandermeulen High School proudly announced that seniors Frank D'Elia and Erin Henry have been nominated for the esteemed Butch Dellecave Award. This award—which recognizes two high school seniors from across Suffolk County for their exceptional contributions in academics, community service, and athletics—is a testament to the outstanding achievements of these students.

Frank D'Elia and Erin Henry have exemplified excellence, both inside and outside the classroom, throughout their high school careers. Their dedication to academic achievement, leadership roles in various community service initiatives, and outstanding performance in athletics have set them apart as exemplary students.

We are incredibly proud of Frank D'Elia and Erin Henry for their nominations for the Butch Dellecave Award, said Adam Sherrard, Director of Health, Physical Education, Athletics and Nursing. “They exemplify the values of academic excellence, community service, and athletic achievement that this award celebrates. Their dedication and leadership have enriched our school community, and we are thrilled to see their efforts recognized at this level.

The Butch Dellecave Award, named after the late Suffolk County Sports Hall of Famer Angelo Butch Dellecave, honors students who not only excel in their chosen sports, but also demonstrate strong character, leadership skills, and a commitment to serving their communities.

Frank D'Elia distinguished himself as a scholar-athlete who excelled in wrestling and baseball. He was the five-time All-County wrestler, 2-time state qualifier, 2-time top 12 place finisher, 144-17 overall record in his wrestling career, and second for the most wins in Port Jefferson history. Beyond sports, Frank has been actively involved in the Unified Bowling team and instructor for Community Kid Wrestling, showcasing his leadership and dedication to making a positive impact.

Erin Henry has similarly left an indelible mark at Earl L. Vandermeulen High School through her academic prowess and athletic achievements in volleyball. She has been the starting outside hitter since the 9th grade; team captain in the fall of 2023, 2022, and 2023 Long Island Class C Title Championship team; a 2022 New York State Regional Championship team; and a member of Newsday’s Top 50 High School Volleyball player. Additionally, Erin made significant contributions to the community by serving as the assistant coach for the Port Jefferson Youth Volleyball. Erin's commitment to excellence both on and off the court has made her a role model for her peers.
