Port Jefferson Middle School congratulates eighth grader Olivia Andriani for receiving the second-place prize in the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County (HMTC) Claire Friedlander Upstander Awards. Presented by the HMTC of Nassau County, this prestigious accolade honors individuals who demonstrate exceptional dedication to standing up against intolerance and discrimination.

The Claire Friedlander Upstander Awards serve as a beacon of hope, empowering young individuals to champion tolerance and empathy in their communities. Olivia’s recognition underscores her unwavering commitment to promoting understanding and acceptance among her peers.

“We are incredibly proud of Olivia for her remarkable achievement,” said Brian Walker, principal of Port Jefferson Middle School. “Her dedication to advocating for tolerance and inclusion sets a shining example for all our students.”

The HMTC’s Upstander event aims to educate and empower teenagers to take a stand against hate and bigotry. Thanks to the generous support of the Claire Friedlander Family Foundation and event sponsors Samar Hospitality Group and SterlingRisk, this event will continue to inspire future generations to uphold the values of tolerance and compassion. The Upstander event celebrates the achievements of students like Olivia but also raises vital funds for HMTC education and programming. By investing in the education of our youth, we can create a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
