Port Jefferson School District Celebrates Dedicated Staff Members and Honors Retirees

The Port Jefferson School District recently recognized the dedication and contributions of its esteemed staff members who achieved tenure while also bidding bid farewell to retiring personnel. These dedicated educators have all left an indelible mark on the Port Jefferson community.

Dr. Robert Neidig, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, and Larissa Wolber, Port Jefferson Middle School psychologist, achieved a significant milestone in their careers by receiving tenure, a testament to their unwavering commitment and diligent efforts in fostering excellence within the district.

Among the retirees honored, Bonnie Kelsh stands out for her 17 years of exemplary service as a teaching assistant at Port Jefferson Middle School. Known for her consistency and infectious positivity, Bonnie made a lasting impact on students and colleagues alike, embodying dedication and establishing a strong rapport with all.

Guidance counselor Keith Buehler dedicated 27 years to the district, embodying empathy and resilience in his support for students. Keith has long been a role model, providing encouragement and a listening ear to generations of students and families, shaping positive relationships that define Port Jefferson Middle School.

Kevin Burr, Maintenance Mechanic II, has been instrumental in maintaining the district's facilities for over 39 years. Starting as a part-time worker in 1985, Kevin's reliability and pride in his work have ensured that school grounds are always prepared, whether for games, homecoming celebrations, or graduation ceremonies.

Debra Hartmann, with 27 years of service, and Patricia Koehnlein, with 24 years, have been crucial in supporting special education initiatives. Their roles as teaching assistants involved adapting materials, modifying assignments, and implementing specialized instructional techniques tailored to each student's unique needs, fostering academic success and inclusivity.

Kathleen Hanley, who served 19 years in various capacities within the district, began her tenure as a senior office assistant at Port Jefferson Middle School, where she mentored multiple principals and became known for her steadfast guidance and calming presence. Transitioning to the central office in 2018 as secretary and district clerk, Kathleen continued to provide invaluable support and leadership.

Cynthia Dellaconna, with 17 years of unwavering commitment and invaluable contributions to the Port Jefferson School District as a principal office assistant, quickly became an indispensable member of the administrative team. She was not only known for her clerical proficiency but also her multifaceted roles as a trusted sounding board, problem solver, decision maker, and advocate. She approached every task with heart, dedication, and gift.

These dedicated individuals have left an indelible mark on our district through their commitment and passion for education, said Jessica Schmettan, Superintendent of Schools. Their contributions have shaped the lives of countless students and colleagues, and we are profoundly grateful for their service.
