The Port Jefferson Middle School Science Olympiad team placed 11th out of 39 teams in the New York State Science Olympiad State competition at East Syracuse Minoa High School in Syracuse, NY on April 5th and 6th. With this ranking, they earned the honor of being named the best small school in New York State. This award is given to the highest-ranking school with an enrollment of under 500 students. The scores are determined by adding up the results of all the science and engineering events the team competed in. Coached by Mr. Adam Bouchard, the team was accompanied by Mrs. Debra Hagmeyer and Ms. Nicole Sklar.

“During the event, the students were focused and showed the drive to perform well in the competition,” Mr. Bouchard said. “They put in many hours of studying and preparation for the tournament and it showed. We continue as a team to excel and I am very proud of their achievements.”
