PJMS Science Olympiad Team Takes Third Place at Suffolk County Regional Division B Competition

PORT JEFFERSON, NEW YORK (MARCH 2024)—The Port Jefferson Middle School Science Olympiad Team showcased their exceptional talent at the Suffolk County Regional Division B Science Olympiad Competition, which was held at Murphy Junior High School in Stony Brook. The team, comprising students from grades 6 to 9, competed against 32 total teams in a series of challenging events that tested their study skills in various scientific disciplines, including earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, and scientific problem-solving.

“We are all so incredibly proud of the Science Olympiad team," said Brian Walker, Principal of Port Jefferson Middle School. “A huge thank you to our science teacher, Adam Bouchard who coached the team, and to our teachers Melissa Garcia, Greg Gorniok, Jonathan Maletta, Amanda Perovich, Nicole Sklar, and Danielle Weaver for assisting the team. Good luck at the upcoming state competition!”

Despite the fierce competition, the Port Jefferson Middle School Science Olympiad Team excelled and secured an impressive third-place finish. The students demonstrated outstanding performance, earning a total of 27 medals across the A, B, and C teams. Their hard work, teamwork, and passion for science were evident throughout the competition.

The success at the regional level has qualified the Port Jefferson Middle School Science Olympiad Team to advance to the state competition. They will be representing their school and community on Friday, April 5, and Saturday, April 6, at the state competition hosted at East Syracuse Minoa High School in Syracuse. The team is determined to showcase their skills and knowledge on a larger platform and compete against other top teams.
