Coach Maletta's tenure, marked by dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment, has left an indelible mark on the Port Jefferson community and its student-athletes.

Superintendent Jessica Schmettan expressed heartfelt appreciation for Coach Maletta's contributions, stating, I would like to thank Coach Maletta for the time and commitment he has made to making a positive impact on our student-athletes.”

A cornerstone of Port Jefferson athletics, Coach Maletta has been the driving force behind the success of the wrestling program for nearly two decades. At the Board of Education meeting held on March 12, Superintendent Schemttan took a moment to express gratitude for Coach Maletta's tireless efforts and acknowledged his decision to prioritize his family. Throughout his coaching journey, Coach Maletta has instilled the value of Family in his team, advocating for unity and camaraderie both on and off the mat. His decision to step down stems from a desire to devote more time to his family, particularly his son Mikey, who is entering seventh grade, and his daughter Sophia, who is in high school.

Coach Maletta's impact extends far beyond the wrestling mat. He coined the phrase PJ Nation, embodying the spirit of resilience and unity within the Port Jefferson community. Coach Maletta’s unwavering belief in his students and his dedication to their personal growth have been instrumental in shaping countless young lives. Reflecting on his coaching philosophy, Coach Maletta emphasized the importance of perseverance and self-belief instilled through wrestling. While victories are celebrated, Coach Maletta's primary focus has always been on nurturing his students to become the best versions of themselves, both on and off the mat.

“Although Coach Maletta will no longer be at the helm of Port Jefferson Varsity Wrestling, the community can take solace in the fact that he will continue to impart his wisdom and guidance as a physical education and health teacher, as well as the coach of our Unified Bowling team for one more year,” said Adam Sherrard, Director of Health, Physical Education, Athletics, and Nursing. “As he embarks on this new chapter, the Port Jefferson community stands united in gratitude for Coach Maletta's remarkable legacy.”
