The Port Jefferson School District proudly announces that three esteemed members of its staff have been recognized with the prestigious SCOPE Education Services Award for Excellence at SCOPE’s 23rd Annual School District Awards Dinner. Roderick Cawley, Keith Buehler, and Cindy Dellacona have each demonstrated exceptional dedication and commitment to the students and community of Port Jefferson, earning them this esteemed accolade.

We are incredibly proud to have Roderick Cawley, Keith Buehler, and Cindy Dellacona as part of our Port Jefferson School District family, said Jessica Schmettan, Superintendent of Schools at the Port Jefferson School District. Their unwavering dedication, passion, and commitment to our students exemplify the values of excellence and service that define our district. We congratulate them on this well-deserved honor.

Roderick Cawley, a retired High School Science Teacher and current Coach, has been a cornerstone of the Port Jefferson School District for over 35 years. Well-known for his spirited teaching style and boundless energy, Mr. Cawley's impact extended far beyond the classroom. His passion for chemistry and biology was contagious as he engaged students with thrilling experiments and captivating storytelling. Additionally, his leadership as a cross country and track Coach led to numerous championships and accolades, earning him induction into the Suffolk County Cross Country and Track and Field Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2021.

Keith Buehler, a Middle School Guidance Counselor, has dedicated nearly three decades to fostering strong relationships with his students and enhancing their educational experiences. Mr. Buehler's commitment extends past counseling, as he has also played a pivotal role in extracurricular activities such as coaching basketball, football, and baseball. His creation of the fishing club is a testament to his dedication to enriching students' lives beyond academics, fostering friendships, and instilling an appreciation for local waters. Mr. Buehler's impact expands globally through his philanthropic efforts to provide school supplies to Antiguan school children, further exhibiting his commitment to serving others.

A retired Principal Office Assistant for Special Education, Cindy Dellacona dedicated over 16 years to supporting students and families within the special education department. Known for her unwavering compassion and professionalism, Ms. Dellacona prioritized the well-being of students and provided invaluable support to parents navigating the complexities of special education procedures. Her genuine kindness and friendly demeanor made her a comforting presence for all those she encountered, leaving a lasting impact on the Port Jefferson School District community.
