Tahlia Ferrara, a fifth grader in Port Jefferson’s Edna Louise Spear Elementary School, recently had a unique opportunity to step into the role of school principal for the day. The event was part of a fundraiser organized by the fifth-grade committee.
Principal Amy Laverty commended Tahlia for her exemplary performance and dedication throughout the day. The event not only provided Tahlia with an interactive and educational experience but also showcased the strong sense of community and support within Edna Louise Elementary School.
Throughout the day, Tahlia took on various responsibilities and tasks typically handled by the school’s principal. This included reading to the prekindergarten class, delivering presentations at assemblies, monitoring the hallways, responding to emails, and supervising bus duty. She also had her photo taken for her very own badge. Tahlia embraced her role with enthusiasm and professionalism.
The opportunity for Tahlia to be principal for the day was made possible through a raffle, which Tahlia won. The raffle ultimately raised $1,000, funds that will be used for end-of-year activities for the fifth-grade students.
