The States Competition will be held from March 15-17 at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York. Eight teams will represent Eastern Long Island at the state competition. Besides Port Jefferson, the other high school teams are Bayport-Bluepoint, Half Hollow Hills East, Hauppauge, Smithtown East, The Stony Brook School, Ward Melville and West Babylon.

Coaches were High School science teachers Amanda Perovich and Melissa Garcia.

“I am utterly impressed with all three of the teams this year!” Coach Perovich said.

“All the teams were almost in the top half of the region and that says a lot about this group of students.”

“This group of students has worked so hard all year preparing for this competition, and we are so proud of their success,” Coach Garcia added. “We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this team.”

Science teachers Mr. Bouchard, Mr. Gorniok, Mr. Maletta, Ms. Sklar and Ms. Weaver accompanied the group along with teaching assistant Mr. Holland. Additional participants were Paige Braile, Sara Freitas, Aoife Hogan, Andi Kelly, Rumaan Khan, Petra Kundic, Evan Monaghan, Ronan Moore, Julia Perrotta, Marco Puopolo and Samantha Reichers.
