Members of the High School’s Interact Club and Port Jefferson Middle School’s National Junior Honor Society took part in the annual cleanup efforts at Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck in Center Moriches on Nov. 17.

The 27 students were accompanied by Interact Club adviser Mrs. Deidre Filippi, special education teacher Ms. Christina Marino, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Christine Austen, High School Principal Mr. Eric Haruthunian and Middle School Principal Dr. Robert Neidig and members of the Rotary Club of Port Jefferson and Rocky Point Rotarians in their efforts to assist the greater community through service projects.

The students worked collaboratively to help ready the facilities and grounds for next summer’s campers, individuals with physical or developmental disabilities who have the opportunity to enjoy the recreation, education and camping experience that the camp offers.

“Our students truly understand the rewards that volunteer work in the community accomplishes not only for others, but for themselves,” Mrs. Filippi said. “Working alongside their peers outside of classroom activities is an engaging process that will serve them throughout their lives.”
