Earl L. Vandermeulen High School welcomed the United States Ambassador
to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, Mr. Edward T. McMullen Jr., as its
2019 Wall of Fame inductee at a recent ceremony in the high school
library. A graduate of the Class of 1982 and a successful diplomat and
entrepreneur, Mr. McMullen was welcomed by district administrators and
students who started the festive event with a tour of the high school
building and grounds with several Class of 1982 alumni and former U.S.
History teacher Richard Olson, who retired in 2002. As Mr. McMullen was
escorted to the library, the high school chamber orchestra, under the
direction of Dr. Michael Caravello, performed several selections.
Introduced at the ceremony by Principal Mr. Eric Haruthunian and Student
Organization co-vice presidents Sophia Knapp and Annika Wakefield, Mr.
McMullen was lauded for his philanthropic efforts and professional
achievements before taking the podium to thank the school for the honor
and speak of his role as an ambassador. Grace Keegan, a junior and a
student in the high school’s broadcasting class, interviewed Mr.
McMullen for The Morning Show, the high school’s livestream news
program. Mr. McMullen was then presented with a personalized plaque
before proceeding to the Wall of Fame for an unveiling of the school’s
wall plaque.
