A dozen students in the high school Gay-Straight Alliance attended the 23rd annual LGBT Conference at the Charles B. Wang Center at Stony Brook University recently.

Accompanied by co-advisers Kristin Britt and Dinarae Camarda, members of the school’s Gay Straight Alliance spent the day attending workshops on topics including upstander training, enhancing their school’s GSA Club, LGBT history, community and youth organizing, health and social justice.

“This annual event helps to empower students to advocate for positive social and health-related choices as well as being able to learn and share in a supportive environment,” Ms. Britt said.

More than 500 students and 600 participants were in attendance at the conference, touted as the largest to date.
