Earl L. Vandermeulen High School senior Meara Kelly had the distinct honor of participating in the 20th annual Suffolk County Music Educators Association (SCMEA) Day of Horn Festival held at Northport High School. Day of Horn, a celebrated event, brought together horn students from across Suffolk County for an unforgettable evening of music, collaboration, and mentorship.
Throughout the evening, participants, including Meara Kelly, had the incredible opportunity to perform alongside professional musicians, including the esteemed guest artist Michael Stevens, Principal Horn of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Stevens, a renowned musician in the horn community, led the students in rehearsals and shared valuable insights, enriching the overall experience for all involved.
SCMEA’s Day of Horn Festival is designed to bring together young horn players for an immersive day of rehearsals, masterclasses, and performances. It serves as a celebration of the art of horn playing and provides students with the unique opportunity to learn from seasoned professionals while honing their musical skills in a collaborative environment.
Meara’s participation in the event is a testament to her dedication and skill as a musician. She has been a valued member of the Port Jefferson High School band and continues to inspire her peers with her passion for music. The festival not only provides a platform for young musicians to showcase their talents but also emphasizes the importance of the community and the role of music in bringing people together. Port Jefferson High School and the Port Jefferson School District are proud of Meara’s achievement and are committed to fostering a supportive environment for the development of the arts in education.
