Members of the Earl L. Vandermeulen High School music department paid a heartfelt tribute to the victims and heroes of September 11, 2001, during the Port Jefferson Fire Department’s annual 9/11 memorial service held earlier today.

High school seniors Mari Fukuto and Kay Moran, under the direction of Dr. Michael Caravello, Director of Music and Fine Arts, delivered a moving musical performance that honored the memory of those lost and recognized the courage of the first responders and service members who bravely answered the call on that day.

The students performed The Star-Spangled Banner followed by Taps, providing a powerful and solemn moment of reflection for all in attendance. “The performance was a beautiful and respectful tribute,” said Dr. Caravello. “Our students understand the importance of this day and were honored to represent our school and community in such a meaningful way.”

The Port Jefferson School District remains proud of its student musicians for their continued commitment to honoring important moments in history through music.
