Port Jefferson Board of Education Celebrates Student Achievement, Staff Excellence, and Distinguished Service

The Port Jefferson School District proudly recognized outstanding students, faculty, staff, and retirees during its June 9 Board of Education meeting, highlighting the many individuals whose contributions have enriched the district throughout the 2025-2026 school year.

The evening began with a celebration of academic excellence as Elementary School Assistant Principal Brianne Antenucci recognized the district's Science Fair winners. Students were honored for their creativity, curiosity, and dedication to scientific inquiry.

The Board of Education also welcomed Assemblywoman Rebecca Kassay, who presented proclamations on behalf of SCOPE Education to faculty and staff members recognized for their outstanding service to the Port Jefferson School District.

The district further celebrated the recipients of its Royal Recognition Program. Dr. Megan O'Neill, Executive Director of Human Resources, honored the awardees selected throughout the school year and presented each with a commemorative Port Jefferson Royal mug filled with chocolates. The program recognizes employees who consistently exemplify professionalism, dedication, and service to the Port Jefferson school community.

Dr. O'Neill also recognized faculty and staff members who recently earned tenure, marking an important milestone in their educational careers.

A particularly meaningful portion of the evening was dedicated to honoring retirees whose years of service have left a lasting impact on the district. Each retiree received a commemorative plaque and the symbolic "Keys to the Kingdom" in recognition of their commitment to students, colleagues, and the Port Jefferson community.

Administrators and colleagues shared heartfelt remarks on behalf of each retiree, reflecting on their dedication, accomplishments, and the positive influence they have had on generations of students and staff.

The Board also recognized outgoing Student Representative Narin Karakurum for his service and leadership. Superintendent Jessica Schmettan delivered remarks highlighting Narin's contributions as a student voice on the Board and presented him with a commemorative plaque in appreciation of his commitment to the school community.

"The June Board of Education meeting provided an opportunity to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our students, recognize the dedication of our faculty and staff, and honor those who have devoted their careers to serving the Port Jefferson School District," said Superintendent Jessica Schmettan. "We are grateful for the many individuals who make our schools such a special place to learn and grow."

The evening served as a fitting tribute to the excellence, service, and community spirit that define the Port Jefferson School District.
