PORT JEFFERSON SCHOOL DISTRICT 2026-27 GOALS & OBJECTIVES

Goal:
Ensure all students have access to a rigorous, engaging and inclusive education that prepares them to be successful beyond graduation.

Objectives:

  • 1A: Provide learning experiences that develop the knowledge, skills and qualities identified in the NYS Portrait of a Graduate, including academic preparedness, creativity and innovation, critical thinking, effective communication, global citizenship and a reflective, future-focused mindset.
  • 1B: Expand opportunities for students to engage in advanced coursework, research, internships, career exploration and partnerships with higher education, industry and community organizations to strengthen college and career readiness.
  • 1C: Modernize how student progress and achievement are measured through multiple assessment pathways, authentic demonstrations of learning and project-based learning.
  • 1D: Leverage emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and digital learning tools, to personalize instruction, increase engagement, enhance creativity and prepare students for an evolving global workforce.

Ensure responsible short- and long-term financial planning that supports student and staff needs while staying within fiscal guidelines and community expectations.

Objectives:

  • 2A: Develop and communicate a fiscally responsible 2027–2028 school budget that reflects the priorities of students, staff and community members.
  • 2B: Build a long-term financial model that anticipates future expenses, including legal matters and the LIPA glide path, while supporting responsible planning and transparency for taxpayers.
  • 2C: Implement a long-range capital planning process that evaluates facilities, infrastructure, technology and equipment needs to preserve district assets and support future educational priorities.
  • 2D: Leverage emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to evaluate district programs, operational practices and resource allocation to ensure operations are effective and efficient.

Strengthen partnerships and school culture through inclusive systems, transparent communication and shared decision-making with students, families, staff and the wider school community

  • 3A: Foster a safe, welcoming and inclusive school environment for all students, staff, families and guests to feel connected to the school community.
  • 3B: Strengthen opportunities for students, staff and families to provide meaningful feedback and participate in decisions that impact the school community.

  • 4C: Expand opportunities that promote physical and mental wellness, healthy lifestyles, nutrition and lifelong healthy habits through health education, physical activity, social-emotional learning and wellness programs for students and staff.

MISSION OF THE PORT JEFFERSON SCHOOLS

The mission of the Port Jefferson Union Free School District is to provide a personalized, rigorous education that develops responsible, independent, adaptable life long learners through the acquisition of effective thinking and communication skills, an appreciation of the arts, the proficient use of technology, and a healthy life style in an educational community that promotes integrity and mutual respect.
