The Port Jefferson Royal Robotics Team showcased outstanding skill, teamwork, and innovation at the first Robotics Long Island Regional competition held last week at Hofstra University. The three-day event brought together 48 high school teams from across local, state, and international communities to compete in a challenging robotics design and build competition.

Competing with their robot, Sherman, the Port Jefferson team delivered an impressive performance throughout the seeding matches. Their strong showing earned them a position as the 7th-ranked alliance heading into the playoff rounds, where they collaborated with two other teams in a series of high-stakes matches.

The team is led by advisor Brian Chalmers, whose leadership has been instrumental in the program’s continued success. Port Jefferson Superintendent Jessica Schmettan praised the team and its advisor, stating, “We are very proud of our robotics team and the work Mr. Chalmers has done over the years.”

First Robotics competitions are designed to inspire young people to pursue interests in science, engineering, technology, and mathematics (STEM). This year, the Port Jefferson team’s commitment, creativity, and enthusiasm stood out among a highly competitive field, reflecting the team’s dedication to excellence and innovation.

“The Port Jefferson Royal Robotics Team is proud of its accomplishments and grateful for a successful season,” said Mr. Chalmers. “Our students and mentors continue to demonstrate what can be achieved through collaboration, perseverance, and a passion for STEM.”

The Port Jefferson Royal Robotics Team remains a shining example of STEM excellence and looks forward to building on this success in future competitions.
