Posted Date: 05/22/26 (11:41 AM)

Earl L. Vandermeulen High School senior Kieran Cassey has been recognized at the Suffolk County Holocaust Remembrance Day Commemoration on April 30, 2026, at Suffolk Y JCC. The meaningful evening celebrated the achievements of Suffolk County youth while also featuring firsthand testimony from a Holocaust survivor.

Kieran was selected in recognition of his innovation, leadership, and dedication to strengthening community connections through education and service. Understanding the importance of equitable access to STEM education, he developed an initiative that uses 3D printing technology to create free, hands-on STEM kits for younger students. Through partnerships with Little Free Libraries and collaboration with the Port Jefferson Public Library, Kieran has expanded access to these educational resources throughout the community. In addition to distributing the kits, he is organizing interactive STEM workshops designed to engage younger students in hands-on learning while encouraging fellow high school students to become involved in the project.

“Kieran’s work reflects a deep commitment to making education accessible and inspiring the next generation of learners,” said Johm Ruggero, Earl L. Vandermeulen High School Principal. “His leadership demonstrates how innovation and community service can come together to create meaningful opportunities for others.”

By combining creativity, collaboration, and service, Kieran continues to make a lasting impact on his community. His efforts not only broaden educational opportunities for younger students but also foster connection, mentorship, and civic engagement among students across the district.
