To our Wonderful Class of 1961
You Don't Want To Miss Our 55th Reunion (Sept. 16-18, 2016)!
Hello to all who would like to meet in 2016 for yet another reunion of the Class of 1961 graduates of Earl L. Vandermeulen High School (ELVHS), Port Jefferson, Long Island, NY. There has been some very positive interest in having a 55th-year get-together -- and why not? If not now, when? This could get to be a lovely habit. As a result Linda Brownell Pisarro as well as Tim Still, Jackie Still and Sue Gailer Schuler are working on a "rerun" of our reunion in 2011. This preliminary email is to see what kind of interest there is:
Main Event: Buffet Dinner - Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016
Time: 6:30 cocktails; 7:00-11:00 pm dinner
Venue: Stony Brook Yacht Club, 21 Shore Road, Stony Brook (one block from Three Village Inn)
  • Buffet Dinner and Cash Bar: We will have hors d'oeurves, salad, three entrees (beef carving station, seafood and vegetarian) and dessert.
  • Cost: $70.00 per person based on a minimum of 50 people attending.
  • We will have a DVD of the Washington trip to watch together that night, and we are sure to have some good laughs as well as some nostalgic moments of a time in our lives we can never forget. We'll also listen to, with an improved sound system, good old rock 'n roll music from the 50s and 60s.
    Before and after Main Event: (1) VFW (address and directions in a follow-up email) pizza get-together the night before (Friday, Sept. 16; 7-11 pm). Cash bar and pizza to order at your expense. We'll also have snacks while waiting for the pizza! (2) We are looking into having a tour of ELVHS (our dear alma mater) on Saturday morning. We'll have details in a follow-up email. For football enthusiasts, there may be a home game of the Royals football team. A schedule of games would not be available until probably a month before the reunion. We will keep you posted. (3) There is also the possibility of meeting for brunch on Sunday, Sept. 18th. A number of people have felt that this could be one last time to see friends before we go our separate ways. Anyone interested?
    Please reply to this email and let us know if you would be interested in attending our 55th Reunion and then mark the dates on your calendar. If you know you will be attending, please make a check (either for $70.00 for one attendee or $140.00 for two) payable to: Class of 1961. Then mail to: Linda Brownell Pisarro, 155 Dorr Drive, V-1, Rutland, VT 05701. Please include your full name and that of your guest, if applicable. This will help with our nametags. Note: The cutoff date for checks in hand is August 1, 2016.
    Important: We want to give as many classmates as possible the opportunity to attend this reunion and to make sure we meet our minimum of 50 attendees. Therefore, if you know anyone from the Class of 1961, please forward this email to them and, if there is interest in attending, ask them to respond to Linda's email: lindadorr1@comcast.net or to her address above. We would love to be in touch with as many people as possible. It will be wonderful to see you again and, in many cases, to continue heartwarming conversations from 5 years ago.
