Earl L. Vandermeulen High School announced that 9th grader Max Gordon has spearheaded a remarkable initiative to support Game Changers NY, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering disadvantaged youth through sports. Max’s project, which involved collecting gently used sporting equipment, aims to provide young athletes with the tools they need to pursue their dreams. He first began his mission last November as an 8th-grade student and has been collecting donations ever since.

Demonstrating an innate understanding of sports' impact on personal development and community engagement, Max launched the equipment drive to ensure that children who lack access to athletic gear can still participate in their favorite sports and games.

The response from the community was overwhelming; families and community members rallied behind Max’s cause, donating everything from soccer balls to baseball gloves. Game Changers NY is committed to transforming the lives of disadvantaged youth by providing access to sports and promoting teamwork, discipline, and confidence. Through initiatives such as Max's equipment drive, the organization aims to foster a love for athletics and empower young people to overcome obstacles.

Principal John Ruggero commended Max for his dedication and leadership. “Max exemplifies the spirit of our school community,” Principal Ruggero said. “His initiative highlights the importance of giving back and inspires his peers to get involved and make a difference.”
