Edna Louise Spear Elementary School proudly welcomed the Port Jefferson Fire Department for a special Fire Safety Awareness Day, engaging students from PreK through Grade 5 in an informative and interactive session about fire safety.
The event educated students about the importance of fire safety plans and recognizing the sound of smoke alarms as well as understanding what to do in case of a fire. Firefighters from the Port Jefferson Fire Department spoke to the students about their critical role in keeping the community safe, while also demonstrating their gear, sparking excitement and curiosity among the children.
We believe that educating our students about fire safety is crucial for their well-being and preparedness, said Amy Laverty, Principal of Edna Louise Spear Elementary School. Having the firefighters here not only provided valuable information but also inspired our students to take fire safety seriously in a fun and engaging way.
As a takeaway from the event, each student received their very own fire hat and a fire safety coloring book, allowing them to reinforce what they learned at home with their family. This hands-on approach ensures that the lessons will resonate long after the day is over. The partnership between Edna Louise Spear Elementary School and the Port Jefferson Fire Department reflects a commitment to community safety and education, equipping students with the knowledge they need to respond effectively in emergencies.
