Port Jefferson School District’s International Club is partnering with the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy and hosted a kickoff on Oct. 24. The student leaders work together in the program that empowers high school students to put leadership principles into practice through student-led community service projects that culminate in a year-end impact project.
Along with advisors Kristen Britt and Jennifer Walling, the students will participate in seven Leader Labs designed to help them better understand core leadership principles and apply them to their daily lives.
“The purpose of Chick-fil-A Leader Academy is to equip the students with life-changing leadership skills, so they can leave an Impact Through Action on our local community,” Ms. Walling said.
The kickoff focused on the students’ participation in the first service project—the 1 Million Book Giveaway, in which they will distribute 500 books to students at the elementary school. The students packed the books, created a gift bag and wrote inspirational quotes for the students to receive in December when the young leaders will visit the elementary school and read to the youth.
“Students were happily rewarded with a delicious meal from Chick-Fil-A. It was a great experience for the students to be learning their actions do make an impact,” Ms. Walling said.
