Members of Port Jefferson School District’s Environmental Club and Leo Club joined together to clean up Centennial Park in Port Jefferson Village recently. They were accompanied by Environmental Club advisor Mr. Jonathan Maletta and Leo Club advisors Mr. Brian Chalmers and Ms. Annie MacIntyre. The community service event was hosted by the Coastal Steward of Long Island and sponsored by Port Jefferson Village. Despite the rain, nine motivated club members showed up to rid the beach of various garbage, debris and harmful microplastics.
“Not only did the students show great leadership and responsibility in their services, but also left more knowledgeable about local environmental issues,” Ms. MacIntyre said.
