Students may have done a double take when they saw Superintendent of Schools Mrs. Jessica Schmettan driving a bus through the elementary school circle. It was National School Bus Safety Week (Oct. 16-20), and she was doing her own safety check to be assured that all Port Jefferson students are safe while on school buses.
The event sponsored by Suffolk Transportation highlights Bus Safety week and the many checks both drivers and the company go through to ensure our children’s safety. “I was able to get familiar with the bus, its complicated equipment and meet with the company’s top officials,” Mrs. Schmettan said.
