The seven members of the Port Jefferson School District Board of Education are among those leaders statewide who are being recognized during New York State School Boards Association School Board Recognition Week.

Board of Education President Ellen Boehm, Vice President Tracy Zamek and trustees Randi DeWitt, Shannon Handley, David Keegan, Rene Tidwell and Ryan Walker were lauded at the Oct. 10 meeting for their tireless commitment to the students of Port Jefferson. Introduced by Superintendent of Schools Jessica Schmettan, they listened to the kind words of Dr. Michael Caravello, president of the Administrators Association; Mr. Anthony Butera, president of the Teachers Association; Mrs. Mary Kay Butera, president of the Paraprofessionals and Ms. Deb Abbatiello, vice president of the Office Staff Association.

School Board Recognition Week helps to promote awareness and understanding of the important work performed by local school boards.
