In preparation for the start of the winter athletic season, Port Jefferson student-athletes in grades 7-12 welcomed registered dietitian Alyssa Morando and Community Outreach Manager John Perkins from St. Charles Hospital to learn how the food and drink they put into their bodies prior to and after athletic practices and competitions can have an overall impact on their athletic performance.

The comprehensive presentation featured a PowerPoint that highlighted other aspects of staying healthy, including vitamins and minerals, and how what they eat directly affects the structure and function of their brain and, ultimately, their moods.

The students took away from the presentation that an interest in nutrition and the way they fuel their bodies will have positive results in the classroom and on the field.
