Earl L. Vandermeulen High School hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new state-of-the-art computer lab. This significant milestone underscores the school’s unwavering commitment to advancing STEM education. The event celebrated the school’s dedication to providing students with cutting-edge resources that significantly enhance academic and technological growth.

Assemblyman Ed Flood appeared at the ceremony alongside Superintendent of Schools Jessica Schmettann. The lab, equipped with 24 high-performance computers, is set to revolutionize the students' learning experiences, facilitating homework, class activities, and work in the STEM field. The event was a testament to the strong bond between the school, its students, parents, and the local community.

The opening of our new computer lab is a significant step forward in enhancing our STEM curriculum and providing students with the resources they need to thrive in today's technology-driven world,” said Superintendent Jessica Schmettann. “We are incredibly proud of our students and faculty and grateful for the support from Assemblyman Flood and our local community.

Earl L. Vandermeulen High School is constantly recognized as one of the best STEM high schools in Port Jefferson, and it ranked number 119 in the U.S. News and World Report's Best STEM High Schools list. This achievement is possible through the dedication, care, and attention of AP teachers who not only play a vital role in their student's success but also go above and beyond to counsel the students in what STEM fields to pursue. The teachers prepare future STEM leaders one day at a time and continue raising the bar.

The new computer lab will fast-track the students' STEM careers and support and facilitate Cyber Security and E-sports electives. Young high achievers organized a Computer Science Carnival hosted in the school library, featuring theme-related activities such as drones and simulations.
