Port Jefferson School District Celebrates Outstanding AP Results for 2024

The Port Jefferson School District recently announced that its Advanced Placement (AP) students for the 2024 academic year performed remarkably well on AP exams, further solidifying Port Jefferson as a leader in academic achievement.

This year, a total of 145 students participated in AP exams, with an impressive 131 students scoring 3 or higher, representing 90.34 percent of the AP cohort. This high percentage underscores the district's commitment to academic rigor and student success.

A total of 71 Port Jefferson students were awarded scholar awards recognizing achievement on the exams: 26 students were awarded the AP Scholar Award, given to students scoring 3 or higher on three or more AP exams; eight students earned the AP Scholar with Honor Award, recognizing students who maintain an average score of at least 3.25 and score 3 or higher on four or more exams; and an impressive 37 students earned the prestigious AP Scholar with Distinction Award, granted to those who achieve an average score of at least 3.5 across all AP exams and score 3 or higher on five or more exams.

Earl L. Vandermeulen High School also announced that three students, Maitreya Driscoll-Stremich, Jax Moore, and Sara Freitas earned the AP Capstone Diploma for the 2024 AP administration. This distinguished honor is awarded to students who score 3 or higher in AP Seminar, AP Research, and four additional AP exams of their choice. This recognition places these students among approximately 21,000 AP Capstone Diploma recipients worldwide, highlighting their exceptional scholarly commitment and academic prowess.

Two students, Anna M. Matvya and Alexa Wonderland, earned the AP Seminar and Research Certificate, awarded to students who score 3 or higher in both AP Seminar and AP Research. This achievement reflects their dedication to in-depth research and analysis, distinguishing them among the 11,100 global recipients of this certificate.

Student participation in the AP Capstone program has seen a steady increase, with over 100,000 students across more than 2,500 schools worldwide engaging in this challenging curriculum during the 2023-2024 academic year. The Port Jefferson School District's participation in this program continues to grow, fostering a culture of academic excellence and critical thinking.
