The Port Jefferson School District hosted its annual New Staff Orientation Day recently, beginning an exciting new academic year. The event was designed to welcome and equip new employees with the essential tools, information and resources they need for a successful start.

The day commenced with breakfast and an informative overview of the district led by Dr. Robert Neidig, the district’s Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. Following, the schedule was packed with valuable sessions to help new staff integrate smoothly into the Port Jefferson community. The orientation began with a session on technology conducted by Brian Sandak. Specifically, new staff members were introduced to the district’s technological resources and were distributed Chromebooks and ID cards.

The focus then shifted to administrative essentials. Sean Leister, Deputy Superintendent, provided an overview of the Business Office and the nVision Portal. Megan O’Neill and Lucy Vecchio from the Human Resources Office elaborated on car tags, benefits, the absence management portal and transcript procedures. The Office of Curriculum and Instruction presented a comprehensive overview of the district and showcased the resources available to staff. This session included introductions to PowerSchool and PowerTeacher as well as Frontline/My Learning Plan and Vector Training.

New teachers enjoyed a lunch provided by the Port Jefferson Teachers Association at Pasta Pasta and paraprofessionals attended a meeting with the Paraprofessionals Association of Port Jefferson in the Elementary School Library. The day concluded with personalized tours and meetings with school principals and assistant principals. New staff members also had the opportunity to visit their designated buildings and view their educational spaces.

The orientation program was designed to ensure that every new member of the Port Jefferson School District feels welcomed, informed, and prepared for the upcoming school year. We look forward to the contributions and enthusiasm that these new staff members will bring to our schools.
