District elementary and middle school orchestra students and their families attended the annual Starry Nights concert at Stony Brook University’s Staller Center. The concert, which featured master musician Colin Carr and others from the university’s Department of Music, was made possible through the Staller Center Outreach Endowment and its coordinator, Paul Newland. Students were able to observe various techniques used by the musicians and enjoy the music, which included works for violin and piano by Boulanger, Ciocârlia and Kreisler; cello and piano by Ravel and Popper, and works for viola and piano by Bridge. Here, orchestra teacher Dr. Vanessa Salzman and students Maru Sugimoto, Nicholas Rodriguez and Kenshin Sugimoto thank Mr. Newland.
