Members of the school district’s Leo Club annually conducts
civic-minded endeavors – food drives, bake sales, “Blizzard Bags” for
Meals on Wheels, and last year’s used eyeglass collections that were
donated to the Lions Club International’s Recycle for Sight program.
Last week, they combined their efforts with the district’s new fishing
club and headed to Port Jeff’s East Beach for a cleanup.
The event was well regarded as a way to encourage more
leadership roles in the community, sharing pride and responsibility as
well as a greater understanding of local environmental issues.
“This was a wonderful collaboration between these two
clubs,” Principal Mr. Eric Haruthunian said. “Not only are the students
connecting with one another and sharing their interests, they are taking
an initiative in caring for the greater community. We commend their
efforts and thank the club advisers – Mr. Chalmers, Mrs. LaSita, Mr.
Buehler and Mr. Gorniok – for coordinating this opportunity.”
