Students in Kari Costanzo’s, Kristi Krieg’s, Megan Roth-Ueno’s and Christine Wicks’ fifth grade classes worked cooperatively and used their STEM skills to design, build and launch Remote Operated Vehicles in the elementary school indoor pool. The event was the culmination of a seven-day project with three marine science educators from OceansWide, an educational organization that explores the depths of the oceans. The engaging program was a first for the district and brought together all three dimensions of the New York State Science Learning Standards to life - scientific and engineering practices, cross-cutting concepts and disciplinary core ideas.
