The thirty-eight members of the Earl L. Vandermeulen High School’s Varsity Club donned T-shirts imprinted with Ben Franklin’s well-known quote: “What good have I done today?” as they assisted special needs youngsters with the League of Yes, an organization that creates baseball programs for people with disabilities. Along with advisers, teachers Jesse Rosen and Deirdre Filippi, the Varsity Club engages in projects centered around athletics and also run school-organized events, including volleyball tournaments and the schoolwide Olympic games, activities that help to raise money for various service-minded organizations. Their work helps to establish a sense of community within the high school building and teaches them that they can create friendships and positively help and influence people while challenging themselves in the process.
