Students Visit Ellis Island
Earl L. Vandermeulen High School students recently visited the Ellis
Island Immigration Museum. Chaperoned by French teacher Heather Marshak
and English as a Second Language teacher Jennifer Walling, who are
co-advisers to the International Club, the students researched their
ancestors who walked through the Great Hall when they entered the United
States so many years ago.
“It was amazing,” Ms. Walling said. “So many of the students found their
ancestors’ names, sometimes four or five great aunts, grandparents;
seeing their names brought them excitement and pride. They asked
engaging questions and left the visit with great memories.”
