As part of the New York International Competition for Young Artists, Earl L. Vandermeulen High School music student Hugo Onghai was recently featured as a cello soloist at Weill Hall at New York’s famed Carnegie Hall. A ninth-grader, Hugo performed French composer Gabriel Faure’s “Sicilienne, Op. 78.” His performance was from memory and his unique opportunity to perform was a result of his second-prize win in the NYIC’s Young Professional Strings Category for students between the ages of 13 and 18.
