Freshman Hugo Onghai Performs at Carnegie Hall
As part of the New York International Competition for Young Artists,
Earl L. Vandermeulen High School music student Hugo Onghai was recently
featured as a cello soloist at Weill Hall at New York’s famed Carnegie
Hall. A ninth-grader, Hugo performed French composer Gabriel Faure’s
“Sicilienne, Op. 78.” His performance was from memory and his unique
opportunity to perform was a result of his second-prize win in the
NYIC’s Young Professional Strings Category for students between the ages
of 13 and 18.
