Members of the high school Gay Straight Alliance shared the mission of the organization to seventh-grade students at Port Jefferson Middle School during National Coming Out Day. Dozens of students from both schools are involved in the student-led organization, which works to bring awareness for a safer, more supportive school environment, free from bullying and harassment, not only for the LGBT community but for all students. The students also hosted a bake sale with proceeds earmarked for the Out of the Darkness Walk for suicide awareness and prevention that they will participate in on Oct. 28 at Jones Beach along with advisers Kristin Britt and Dinarae Camarda.
