As part of the fifth-grade social studies curriculum, students held a charity drive to help children in Haiti.

Mrs. Kari Costanzo’s class conducted a schoolwide recycling effort to raise funds for food and supplies for those in need. They also brought in clothing and shoes. Students learned that for just 10 cents, which is the recycling of two water bottles, a child can eat for a day in Haiti.

One student remarked about how thankful she is when realizing how different it is to live in Port Jefferson.

“The students are proud of their accomplishments and understand how they can make a difference in other people’s lives with efforts of kindness and giving,” Mrs. Costanzo said.
