Senior Ibuki Iwasaki has been named a National Merit Scholarship winner in the 63rd annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

Ibuki was chosen from more than 15,000 outstanding students across the nation – and only 15 in Suffolk County – who will receive the $2,500 scholarship. She is among the winners across the country who were selected because of their strong combination of exceptional academic accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college courses.

Ibuki is the Earl L. Vandermeulen High School Class of 2018 valedictorian. She is headed to MIT to study physics in the fall.
