Four middle school students who benefit from the school’s music program were accepted for the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of New York. They performed recently on one of the world’s most well-known stages: Carnegie Hall.

Sixth-grader Chloe Pipia was selected to the Suffolk Treble Choir, seventh-grader Sophie Blumenthal and eighth-grader David Lawler were selected to the Suffolk Concert Orchestra on oboe and viola, respectively, and seventh-grader Kenneth Dixon-Lanza was selected to the Suffolk Concert Choir. Sophie and David had to audition for the orchestra with a New York State School Music Association level 4 or 5 solo on their instruments and Chloe and Kenneth auditioned for the choirs by demonstrating vocal technique and range with their NYSSMA solos.

“It was a beautiful theater,” Sophie said, “and an exciting opportunity to be a part of the experience.”
