Third-grade students experienced an informative lesson on string, brass and woodwind instruments at the school’s recent Instrumental Recruitment Meeting.

From the soft vibrations of a violin to the baritone-voiced euphonium, the students were introduced to the instruments by the current fourth-graders, who were eager to demonstrate the instrument they each play.

The annual event is a collaborative effort of Dr. Vanessa Salzman, the 4-6 grade orchestra teacher, who organizes the event and band teacher Mark Abbonizio, who runs the meeting with the students.

“Our annual recruitment events are an exciting time to introduce the incoming fourth-graders to all the instruments we teach at the elementary school,” said Dr. Salzman. “Listening and watching demonstrations by their peers not only showcases the talents of our current musicians, but is a powerful and effective tool to inspire our newest members of the band and orchestra.”
