As a testament to the dedication of music education in the Port
Jefferson School District, it has been ranked among the NAMM
Foundation’s 2018 “Best Communities for Music Education” in America. The
honor acknowledges schools and districts across the country for their
commitment to and support for music education as part of the core
curriculum. This is the 12th consecutive year the district has received
the prestigious recognition.
“This honor recognizes the collaborative efforts and dedication to music
education among our teachers, students, administrators and parents,”
said Michael Caravello, director of music and fine arts. “We are honored
by the recognition and the valuable support of our school community.”
The Port Jefferson School District boasts multiple vocal, band and
orchestral performing groups for students and each group is provided
with the opportunity to perform within the community. Additionally,
through partnerships with Stony Brook University and other community
groups, students have the opportunity to learn from renowned
professional musicians.
