Port Jefferson School District’s partnership with the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence continues to serve as a valuable resource in educating students about the importance of making good decisions.

The Student Wellness Seminar Series, coordinated by Dr. Danielle Turner, the district’s director of health, physical education and athletics, and two social workers from LICAAD, is held after school approximately once per month. High school and middle school students are encouraged to take part in the seminars that focus on topics that may affect their lives, including self-esteem, stress management, anxieties, drug and alcohol use, and social media behavior.

The most recent one, presented by Lauren Navarra, LICAAD’s student assistant program coordinator, not only highlighted emerging drug trends, but emphasized ways for students to put healthy coping skills in place.
