As research continues to be conducted on the health risks associated with electronic cigarettes, the District is proactively engaged in preventing its use among students.

A collaboration with the Suffolk County Department of Health Services and educator Stephanie Sloan, is one of the approaches that is teaching students the dangers of e-cigarettes. Sloan is conducting informational presentations to all physical education classes in the High School, where students are learning peer-to-peer prevention strategies.

“Education is key,” said Danielle Turner, the district’s director of physical education, health and athletics, who along with district administrators is working to educate students to make healthy decisions. “The more our students understand and accept the associated risk factors, the more they will make positive choices.”
