As part of their commitment to community service, Edna Louise Spear Elementary School students have created several initiatives this November to give back to their local community and aid those in need this holiday season.

Students are working together to collect and organize food for donation to 10 Port Jefferson families in time for Thanksgiving.

Organized since 2002 by school counselor Jessica Peterson, the goal is to bring students, teachers and administrators together to make a difference for local families. Donated items as well as food cards to local supermarkets will be accepted until Nov. 15 and delivered to the recipients in time for a festive and healthy holiday meal.

“It’s a great school project and the students and their families look forward to sharing their generosity with others,” said Ms. Peterson.
