National Merit Semifinalist Honored at BOE Meeting
Earl L. Vandermeulen High School senior Luigia Than was honored by the
Board of Education at their Oct. 10 meeting. She, along with student
Ibuki Iwasaki, were recognized for qualifying as semifinalists in the
63rd annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
These academically talented students represent the top 1 percent of
students from across the country with the highest scores on the
Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test along with
approximately 1.6 million other juniors from across the country. They
are now in the running for scholarships worth more than $32 million.
