Saturday’s successful Purple/White Day brought together the Port Jeff
Royals youth football and the varsity football team for an afternoon of
fellowship and learning the skills and essentials of the fall sport in a
clinic setting.
More than 15 youngsters and 35 varsity and JV players signed up for the
August 26th special event, which, according to Ms. Danielle Turner,
director of health, physical education and athletics, is slated to
become an annual event because of the initial turnout.
"This is what sports are all about,” said Turner. “For our current
players, it gave them a sense of what a special time this is in their
lives. They may not remember every play of every game in 10 years, but
they'll remember this. It encouraged them to work hard and stay
involved. Sports bring out the best in kids and [this event] was a great
example of that.”
There were many spectactors in the stands to watch the younger players
learn from their newly formed friends – the Port Jeff Royals varsity
football team.
