Seniors Advance to National Merit Finals

The National Merit Scholarship Program has named high school seniors Xinyi Hong and Richard Liebert as finalists in its 2017 scholarship contest.

Xinyi and Richard are among 15,000 students to advance from a field of 16,000 candidates based on their high PSAT scores. They now have the opportunity to compete for one of 7,600 National Merit scholarships, which will be offered in the spring.

Xinyi is a member of her school’s Science Olympiad team, Environmental Club and National Honor Society. She is also a violist. Richard is also a member of the National Honor Society and Science Olympiad Team. He is additionally a member of the Robotics team, a violinist and a dancer.     

The Port Jefferson School District extends its congratulations to Xinyi Hong and Richard Liebert.
