The Port Jefferson School District Board of Education is pleased to announce that it has appointed Jessica Schmettan as the district’s new executive director of curriculum and instruction. She will officially take the helm on Sept. 19, 2016.

“The district is delighted to welcome Ms. Schmettan to Port Jefferson,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Paul Casciano. “Her extensive educational background will be an asset to our students, staff and district.”

Prior to accepting this appointment, Ms. Schmettan spent seven years in the Sachem Central School District. She served for four years as the district’s assistant superintendent for elementary curriculum and instruction, during which time she worked closely with administrators to facilitate and enhance curriculum and program development. Her preceding role was as administrative assistant for instructional support and programming.

Ms. Schmettan also worked in the Three Village CSD as both a district and intermediate literacy coordinator at Arrowhead Elementary School. She began her career in the district as an elementary school teacher. She also taught special education in the Roosevelt Union Free School District and special education kindergarten students at United Cerebral Palsy of Long Island.

Ms. Schmettan holds a Bachelor of Science in special education from Long Island University, a master’s degree in instructional technology from the New York Institute of Technology, and School District Leader certification from the College of New Rochelle.

“I am very much looking forward to beginning my new position in the Port Jefferson School District,” said Ms. Schmettan.
