To help celebrate the high school girls’ varsity soccer team’s Class C state championship, New York State Senator Kenneth LaValle presented each player with a proclamation during a ceremony on Feb. 11.

“Saying that you ladies did a spectacular job may be an understatement,” said Senator LaValle. “Use your winning experience to catapult you to wherever you want to go in life.”

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kenneth Bossert echoed the senator’s congratulations and challenged the team of mostly underclassmen to do it again in 2016. “You brought a lot of pride to Port Jefferson and I know you can do it again,” said Dr. Bossert.

The girls clinched the state championship on Nov. 15, 2015 after defeating Elmira Notre Dame 3-1. It was the first time in the school’s history that the girls’ varsity soccer team has taken the state title.
