Students Raise Over $6,000 for Breast Health Center
Port Jefferson students presented the Fortunato Breast Health Center at Mather Hospital with a check for $6,486.33 as part of Mather Hospital’s Paint Port Pink initiative.
To raise the money, the students participated in a variety of fundraising activities throughout the month of October. At the elementary school, students collected donations in an hourglass jar; middle school students secured donations through the sale of baked goods, shoelaces and Frisbees; and high school varsity cheerleaders and student organization members held a “flocking fundraiser” in which community members paid representatives from either group to flock the yards of their neighbors with pink flamingos.
“The students did a tremendous job raising funds,” said Debra Ferry, director of physical education, health and athletics. “We are very proud of them.”
